The Esk Community Choir at Alkira |
It was standing room only for
all the people sitting around the rec. room at Alkira for the last of our "Aged
Care in July" performances and a privilege it was for us to sing our songs
and solos for some "old" Alkira friends and acquaintances who, from
the looks on their faces, were equally moved.
Conspicuous by their absence were recent residents and ECC Life Members,
Joy and Warwick Grewcoe both of whom will continue to be in our thoughts and
prayers as Joy slowly recovers from yet another term in hospital.

No complaints about hunger before
choir practice as we headed down to the Esk RSL for a second round of
sustenance supplied by the lovely ladies and a gent of the RSL Auxiliary who
had an epicurean selection of delectable
treats all tastefully set out in a colourful display for our 'OAM Celebration
for Alexis' afternoon tea.
It is always difficult to put into words the gratitude we feel for the
brilliance of Alexis and how, with her generosity of spirit and gift of music,
she has enriched us as individuals, as a choir, as a community.
However, this Medal in the Order of Australia
(OAM), acknowledged and approved by a Committee representing our Country, has
expressed it in a way we will never be able.
The greatest honour so richly deserved and one which justified a
celebration and on this day we did just that.... followed by choir practice!
