HEIGHTENED SENSES AND SINGING AT THE ESK GARDEN AND LIFESTYLE FAIR

Eric (disguised as a garden!)

Apparently it is usual fare for a writer of blogs that said writer be somewhat of an authority on the subject.  Well people, whilst this writer cannot produce a scrap of evidence to suggest the presence of so much as a green finger, there were many at Saturday‘s Esk Garden and Lifestyle Fair 2018 who most definitely could and with all roads on this cracking Winter’s day seemingly leading to Esk’s Pipeliner Park, it was a day to slow down, spread wings and enjoy; a day of which Esk Garden Club organizers can feel mighty proud, our own Eric,  warm, witty, wired for sound and wandering the pathways disguised as a garden, welcoming all-comers.

Not even an early morning frost could prevent an agglomeration of garden stall holders setting up for an 8.00am start, just in time for people who came in their droves to soak up the sights, smells, learn from the experts and gather ideas with everything from abelias to zenobias to do what has been described as the purest of human pleasures, plant a garden.  And when it was time to take a breath the local Community Organizations were there to provide nourishment of the foody kind and the Esk Community Choir, food for the soul.

Following the official opening by Mayor Graeme Lehmann, presentations of prizes were made to the clever creative winners of the Scarecrow Competition. The ‘Knight to Remember’ by Kerrie, Judy and Gary of the Esk Community Choir were the deserved winner of ‘people’s choice’ award, further evidence of the diverse talents of choir members.

By 10.40am, heightening senses to yet another level, the sounds of singing wafted through the entrance of the old railway station enticing people to come, sit and enjoy the well-loved songs by the choir, interspersed with some sass by The Sweethearts of Song.  Others got jiggy with the ‘Jazz’ Ensemble and the fabulous ‘My Fair Lady’ Ensemble a fitting finale to a final uplifting performance by the choir following lunch.

Gardens, just as music and singing, hold a certain magnetism which, when allowed in will set one right; where humans are healed and nurtured; all often serving a purpose no one could have predicted.  What a joy to have been part of both on this wonderful day!
