Esk Community Choir |
It has often been argued that pictures speak louder than
words. However, while Kathie’s
comprehensive and very colourful pictorial portrayed in this blog does convey
so much more than this writer’s words can describe of the incredible talent
gathered in and around Toogoolawah’s Art Gallery aka The Condensery on Saturday
29th May, few would argue the dominance of decibels over dialogue
when the consummate five member rock band ‘Deep Blue’ took to the main stage,
their polished performance a culmination of the fantastic musical entertainment
presented to audiences throughout the afternoon of the 2021 Somerset Art Beat
Festival.

Deep Blue |
An initiative of Queensland Government through Arts
Queensland and supported by Creative Alliance, Somerset Regional Council and
Regional Arts Services Network, this Festival was a brilliant showcase of the
artistic talent to be found in the Somerset Region. From a
dance stage to a conglomeration of local art, food and produce stalls, visitors
were able to meander in and around the grounds, perchance to get amongst the
stamp making, weaving and circus workshops, admire the artwork including the
pieces from Somerset’s Traditional Owners, Jinibara people, or just find a sunny
spot on the expansive lawns to sit and enjoy the musical entertainment from the
two live music stages.

The Sweethearts of Song |
The diversity of music was a stunning range of styles often
defined by the instruments accompanying them.
There was Kilcoy’s Ukulele group, the sultry sounds of the saxophone with
Sonny V’s jazz, story-telling original songs by the talented duo, Never
Two Late, the amplification of electric guitar, keyboard and drums
accompanying Deep Blue and somewhere in between, the sublime sounds of
the Esk Community Choir’s medley from My Fair Lady and the Sweethearts
of Song’s harmony of sounds from the ‘60s.

Andrew with Kathie |
It is with gratitude to Andrew and his team from Creative
Alliance for their professionalism in staging this stunning range of music
styles from soloists to the Sweethearts and our large choir group. It has been such an honour to have been able
to share the stage with so many talented vocalists and musicians. To our dream
team of Margaret, for her dedication and ability to adapt to any and all situations
even in howling breezes and Alexis for this and her time, talent, patience and
encouragement always, we of the Choir give our sincere thanks.
