ADVANCING THE ARTS and CULTURE IN SOMERSET

The Arts Alliance Group led by the Somerset Civic Centre’s energetic and driven venue management team headed by Centre co-ordinator, Valkyrie Blacksmith was again sowing the seeds of change and the advancement for the Arts and Culture in the Somerset Region when numbers of people from various Arts and Culture related organizations gathered at the Somerset Civic Centre on February 2nd for a powwow for progress.

Following acknowledgements to the Land’s Original Owners and a warm welcome by Mayor Graeme Lehmann, a delightful performance by Ipswich entertainer, Dee Bradbury led the way for the concept of the conclave.

Highly credentialled guest speaker, Mr Luke Harriman, the General Manager of Performing Arts Centre, Australia, gave a motivating and informed address along with a power point presentation on the support of the Arts in its many forms along with the promotion of cultural tourism in the region.  His follow-up workshop had audience members tossing around their own ideas for overcoming the difficulties of collaborations between the sectors and the promoting of the arts, artists, and cultural activities within the region.  Clearly our own Jessica’s mind takes on a life of its own when asked for input.  She was indeed a wonderful spokesperson on behalf of the Choir’s group.

Elevating the ambience of an evening themed of the Arts, members of the Choir provided some delightful entertainment through sublime solos, a musical treat from our trio of instrumentalists, and some soulful ensemble singing while guests dined on appetizing boxed finger food.

It is unquestioned that artists and cultural groups are integral in providing health, stability, joy and change to communities.  It is through the co-operation of multi-disciplinary organizations like Arts Alliance who enable support for the challenges that no single organization or artist can face alone.
