Joie de vivre was alive and well
and appeared in spades at the Mayoral Gala Charity Ball held at the Somerset
Civic Centre on August 19th 2023.
Glamorous guests gathered in the Joan Burke Room and conversation flowed
on a par with the bevy of beverages and creative canapes concocted by chef
extraordinaire, Jason Peppler. On cue
at 6.00pm, the auditorium doors swung open to the sights and sounds of the
Spirit of the Somerset, the essence of this evening’s event.
Attention was immediately drawn
to the star attraction, the giant she-oak tree where, under its sparkling
canopy, Alexis and the Esk Community Choir set the scene with the sounds of An
Australian Medley, a potpourri of well-loved Australian ‘anthems’. As the music slowed, so did the party of the
many expectant sponsors and guests as they followed the trail to tables adorned
with Australian flora centre pieces created in harmony with the theme de jour. Hi spirits prevailed as the guests throbbed to
the beat of the band, snaked their way around tables of silent auction and raffle
prizes, and between two sumptuous dinner courses, tried to avoid the clutches
of the ‘Swingin’ Martinis’ as they worked the crowd with their unique brand of
comedy.

It has been said that valued
people live in a society in which their story has a place. For your support and friendship Graeme, your
place in the hearts of the Esk Community Choir will always be valued and cheers
to your next chapter. May it be even
more fantastic than the last.
